Trans Accountability Project CTC

Trans Accountability Project (TAP)

TAP was created to directly address the health, overall wellness, employment, and safety concerns of Black and Latina women of trans experience and to provide responses and solutions to the issues that many trans women within the community face on a generational basis. The Trans Accountability Project Steering Committee is collectively comprised of members from Howard Brown HealthTaskForce Prevention and Community Services, and Chicago Therapy Collective.

Trans-Inclusive Employment

Trans inclusive work environments and occupational opportunities are an important part of economic equity and social justice that organizational members of T.A.P. are committed to ensuring, especially for some of the most marginalized members of our community, Black and Latina women of trans experience.

HOW IT HAPPENS

T.A.P. members provide no-cost employer trainings to groups of allies within Chicago’s business community. Member organization, CHICAGO THERAPY COLLECTIVE, maintains a JOB BOARD of committed businesses trained to provide safer work places for trans employees and customers.

Employment Equity

Trans people are more than 5 times more likely to experience unemployment; 18% vs 3.6%. In a 2021 McKinsey study, only 32% of trans respondents felt comfortable being out in the workplace.

HOW IT HAPPENS

Supporting safer employment opportunities includes leveling DEI by providing employee training for women of trans experience to ensure they have the tools necessary to function well in formal employment environments and secure stable employment. T.A.P. has conducted weeklong and one-day intensive training opportunities designed for and with Black and Latina women of trans experience across various locations and neighborhoods around Chicago for several years and continues to evolve its training offerings to support the social changes women of trans experience encounter throughout the city. Check out the links BELOW for upcoming trainings.
