Artist Statement

Using embroidered fibers, found objects, and photography, they create altar arrangements with the purpose of inviting the viewer to construct their own mythology with the material world.

Artist Bio

An interdisciplinary artist working with the nuanced ideas of time, diaspora and home, Carolina Poveda was born in Miami Florida to immigrant parents from Venezuela and Cuba.  They attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for their undergraduate studies. Poveda is a polymathic artist and community organizer with the Chicago Skillshare Network.  Their interests currently lie with photography, fiber art, and sculpture tied to ideas of de/colonization, ancestral communion and the spirit of the divine.
